Tommy Ludgate, Professional Vocalist: Why Does Excitement And Nerves Feel The Same?

Six Before Breakfast is the Podcast of International Creative Development (ICD) - a community of those who make their living by being creative, or those that manage, coach or support those that do. Tommy Ludgate is a professional vocalist, a music educator, and a coach of creative people. From stage to workshop, from singing to supporting the creative ambitions of others, she knows the joys and not so joyful times - of what it takes to be a performer. Signed to a record label as a schoolgirl, working with acts such as Paul Weller and even touring Russia. She has seen what it takes to not just be passionate about creativity - but to make a professional career from it too. Today, she specialises in running workshops for creative people, to improve confidence and turn those ideas into practice.

In this episode with Andrew Armour, Tommy shares her own creative journey, and building a career, from really doing what you really love. She discusses how to deal with the inevitable setbacks and finding that all important resilience to keep getting up on to that stage – even when things do not feel so great. She tells us how to stay calm and, in the moment, when you are about to perform and feel those nerves, of working in your Flow.
